successfully performed an extraordinary and extremely rare surgery on a five‑year‑old
boy after scans revealed an underdeveloped fetus inside his chest an
exceptionally unusual case of a condition known in medical science as “fetus in fetu,” in which a
malformed twin becomes enclosed within the body of the other and survives by
relying on the host’s blood supply; the complex
operation led by senior thoracic surgeon Dr. Sultan Mahmood Owaisi carefully
removed the malformed fetus from near the boy’s heart and major blood vessels a
location far more critical and unusual than the more common abdominal cases experts
say fetus in fetu occurs in roughly one out of every 500,000 births worldwide
and its presence in the chest is even rarer and although the fetus could not
survive the surgery has improved the child’s symptoms which included persistent
cough breathing difficulties and infections that had persisted since infancy and
hospital officials report the boy is now stable and recovering well under
advanced care with his family expressing profound relief and gratitude for the
medical team’s expertise in handling this exceptionally rare congenital
anomaly.
