Gmail users around the world woke up to chaos in their inboxes this weekend after automated filters and classification systems responsible for sorting emails into tabs like Promotions, Social, Updates and Spam appear to have malfunctioned with the disruption beginning early Saturday morning around 5 a.m. Pacific Time and quickly triggering a flood of reports that messages normally relegated to secondary categories were landing straight in users’ Primary inboxes and that legitimate emails from known contacts were being mislabeled with alarming spam warnings or delayed entirely causing confusion and frustration on social media and tech forums; Google has acknowledged the issue on its official Workspace Status Dashboard confirmed it’s aware of misclassification and spam related alerts affecting Gmail accounts and said engineers are actively working on a fix but hasn’t provided a clear timeline for full restoration of normal sorting and filtering while also urging people to exercise caution with unknown senders as the service works to stabilize and recover the reliability of its long trusted system.
