The discussions centered on improving road infrastructure, easing chronic traffic congestion, upgrading drainage systems, and strengthening urban connectivity across key commercial and residential corridors.
Among those attending the meeting were Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, senior provincial bureaucrats, financial officials, urban planners, and representatives from multiple development authorities overseeing the city’s expanding infrastructure portfolio.
Officials briefed the chief minister on the status of major road rehabilitation projects, underpasses, transport corridors, and drainage upgrades designed to address Karachi’s growing urban pressures. The city, home to more than 20 million people and considered Pakistan’s economic backbone, has struggled for years with deteriorating roads, flooding during monsoon seasons, and severe traffic bottlenecks that continue to impact businesses and daily commuters.
Murad Ali Shah directed departments to accelerate work while maintaining international construction standards and greater transparency in project execution. Authorities were also instructed to improve coordination between civic agencies in an effort to avoid delays that have historically slowed major public works in Karachi.
The renewed push comes as Pakistan faces increasing pressure to modernize urban infrastructure in its largest cities amid rapid population growth and climate-related challenges. Analysts say successful completion of these projects could significantly improve mobility, commercial activity, and public confidence in Karachi’s long-troubled municipal systems.
