The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, will travel to Egypt on 13th October, to participate in the Sharm el Sheikh Peace Summit & to witness the signing of a landmark agreement aimed at ending the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
He will be joined by Deputy Prime Minister & Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with senior government officials.
The summit, co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi & US President Donald Trump, will bring together leaders from over 20 countries, including key Arab-Islamic nations such as Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Indonesia & Turkey, as well as European leaders like British PM Keir Starmer, Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez, French President Emmanuel Macron & Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Jordan’s King Abdullah II is also expected to attend. Notably, neither Israel nor Hamas will participate.
The gathering follows US mediated efforts, supported by 8 Muslim nations, to broker a truce between Hamas & Israel.
Over the past couple of years, the conflict has resulted in thousands of Palestinian casualties & left Gaza in severe humanitarian distress.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office underscored PM Shehbaz’s participation as a historic support for the Palestinian people, their right to self determination & efforts to achieve lasting peace in the region.
The summit aims to secure full Israeli withdrawal, protection of civilians, release of prisoners, relief for displaced populations & reconstruction of Gaza.
It also seeks to advance a credible political process toward an independent & viable Palestinian state, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, based on pre 1967 borders & relevant UN resolutions.
