Afghanistan’s recent claims that Pakistan instigated the Chaman border clash have been strongly rejected by Pakistan.
The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting clarified that firing originated from the Afghan side & Pakistani forces responded immediately with measured & responsible action to neutralise the threat.
The situation has since been brought under control, demonstrating Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining peace while defending its sovereignty.
This incident comes amid ongoing dialogue between Pakistan & Afghan Taliban representatives in Istanbul, aimed at expanding the ceasefire agreed upon after last month’s 5 day border clashes.
Pakistan has repeatedly emphasised its dedication to dialogue & expects equal responsibility & reciprocity from Afghan authorities.
Contrary to Afghan allegations, Pakistan’s security forces acted professionally to prevent escalation & civilian casualties.
Afghan Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid’s claim that Pakistan’s forces fired in Spin Boldak while talks were ongoing is baseless.
Pakistan’s forces have consistently ensured border security & countered provocations originating from Afghan territory, including strikes on terrorist camps, such as those of the Gul Bahadur group.
The backdrop to these talks includes repeated cross-border attacks launched from Afghanistan on 11th October & subsequent clashes that claimed lives & threatened regional stability.
Islamabad has consistently demanded that Afghan authorities stop allowing terrorist networks to use their soil against Pakistan. Despite Afghan denials, Pakistan continues to take robust measures to safeguard its citizens & national security.
The ongoing negotiations, now in their third round under the joint mediation of Turkey & Qatar, involve senior Pakistani officials led by Lt Gen Asim Malik, Director General of the Inter-Services Intelligence, alongside representatives from the military, intelligence agencies & the Foreign Office.
Previous rounds in Doha and Istanbul highlighted Afghan reluctance to adhere to agreed ceasefire mechanisms, forcing Pakistan to remain vigilant while pursuing diplomatic solutions.
Pakistan’s firm & responsible handling of these border provocations underscores its role as a stabilising force in the region.
