Spain has deployed its Military Emergency Unit, or UME, as firefighters battle a fast-moving wildfire sweeping through the Aragon region in the country's northeast.
The blaze has already burned through more than 1,000 hectares of forest near the town of Ores, with extreme heat, strong winds, and low humidity fueling its rapid spread across the Cinco Villas region.
Authorities raised the emergency response to Level 2 as the fire threatened nearby communities, prompting the evacuation of around 400 residents from the towns of Ores, Asin, and Luesia.
Dozens of firefighting crews, supported by military personnel, water-dropping aircraft, helicopters, and emergency teams, have been deployed in an effort to contain the flames before they spread further.
Thick smoke has blanketed parts of the region as firefighters work around the clock under difficult conditions to protect homes and critical infrastructure.
The latest wildfire comes less than a week after Spain's deadliest wildfire in decades, which claimed 13 lives in Almería, underscoring the growing wildfire threat facing southern Europe during another summer of extreme temperatures.
